Research Overview

Nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) are amazing molecules as they can play a variety of different roles not only inside the cell but even outside the cell. Apart from being involved into the central dogma (DNA to RNA to proteins), nucleic acid can act as catalysts (Ribozymes), regulate the gene expression (Riboswitches) and form higher order structures (G-Quadruplex, i-Motif) inside the cell. Outside the cell, nucleic acid both DNA & RNA or even modified nucleic acid (2'F, 2'-OMe) can be in vitro selected by a method called SELEX to bind any target of interest (Aptamers), form variety of 2D and 3D shape structures (Nanostructures), used in detection (Biosensors) and acts as drug-delivery vehicles for a variety of molecular cargos. Our lab is interested in exploring nucleic acids for various applications both inside and outside the cell. We are also interested in exploring role of different nucleic acids (modified and unmodified) in genome editing system like CRISPR-Cas9 for better sequence specificity and reducing off-target effects.
